The Story of Bridget and John Powers

My grandparents, John Thomas Power and Bridget Mary Murphy, were born at the beginning of the 20th Century in Newfoundland, Canada, on opposite sides of Placentia Bay.

As fate would have it, they both emigrated and met in the United States, married and raised a family of 4 children, 22 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren (and growing).

Their family was just one of many hard-working Irish-Catholic families that settled just outside of Boston, MA during a time of enormous growth and opportunity in the United States.

Like many of their peers, their hard work, faith, determination and sacrifices resulted in a better life for the generations of family that followed them.

This is their story…
